The Waning Empire

A poem by Michael Joseph Farrelly

Hello dear, what's for tea?
I hope it's something nice
And for dessert, World War 3
A blood-red gateau slice

Well my dear, I might be late
Our waning empire fumes
Our rulers likes to throw their weight
And raise up clouds of plumes

Now dear, did you see the news
From that straight faced honest chap
A lovely war we can't lose
We've set a cunning trap

We'll call for peace, ask to talk
And drivel them with bluster
Let them leave and when they walk
Bomb them when they muster

Waning Empire 3-2-1
Detonated on your mark
These psycho's with their bomb
Will blow us all apart

Oooh my dear, I've a surprise
By jove they're fighting back
The brass neck of these tribes
No-one said they could attack

The front is hell not stately
Drones rain down and missiles fly
The dead are counted daily
We're piling them sky-high

No worries dear, stiff upper lip
Lie back and think of freedom
It won't be long 'til they ship
My body back to Toildom

Widowed now, life goes on
Don't worry dear, think empire
They got oil, you raise our son
It makes it all worthwhile

Waning Empire 3-2-1
Detonated on your mark
These psycho's when their done
Bear death rates that are stark

It always ends from within
Consumed abroad by lies
Pride and grand delusion
Comes home as no surprise

Sorry dear, who could foresee
The guns now turning inward
Hunting for an enemy
At home is now preferred

So now my dear, your new job
You must protect our son
He can't learn loot, kill and rob
An army life's no fun

All declining empire
Bear thinned veneer of lies
Too out of touch to inspire
A people that now rise

Waning Empire 3-2-1
Detonated on your mark
Meet the new dawn rising sun
Resistance that did spark

Great quotes are not where you find great wisdom. It's where you share this knowledge that counts

"The Waning Empire" - My Inspiration

The hubris of declining decadent empire.

A good example of this declining path is this quote often attributed to Aristotle:

"Republics decline into democracies and democracies degenerate into despotisms"
