The Faceless Mask Of Many

A poem by Michael Joseph Farrelly

Nature, where have you gone
This concrete sprawl of wealth
A masquerade of con
And felony by stealth

It's 15 minutes wide
One quarter hour long
Your ev'ry move is spied
A life with less birdsong

Your food is fake and bland
You fit in here so fine
Obedience just grand
So suck-up stand in-line

Don't wonder why they're vexed
You swallowed ev'ry feign
Now your kids are next
You passed it down the chain

Their freedom weren't for sale
But still you sold them out
Compliance tooth and nail
Your legacy no doubt

You felt compelled to fall
In-line with the herd
'cos thinking's not your call
Outsourced to the nerd

Fitting in was all you knew
The faceless mask of many
That shouts down to the few
With ethics that are empty

Nature, where have you gone
Lost to our compliance
It's Memory-holed bar none
And why they faked the science

Great quotes are not where you find great wisdom. It's where you share this knowledge that counts

Sharing Is Caring
