Little Bird

Little Bird
A poem by Michael Joseph Farrelly
Fly high, fly free little bird
You kept your wings unclipped
Despite all wrathful word
From pecking shoulders chipped
Find your flock little bird
Fly with doubts and wonder too
Seek with sense and vision stirred
Gliding tailwinds with a view
Make your nest little bird
Far from the flattered crowd
Feathered minds free rein spurred
A candid flock unbowed
Raise your own little bird
Teach them well and teach them kind
Seek truth in ev'ry word
'til fledgling flight divined
Soar high skies little bird
Catch the updraft of each chord
Sing your song so loud it's heard
Reap the chorus wholly awed
Face your headwinds little bird
Hold your nerve through tempest storm
Fly bold but calm assured
Through icy winds of scorn
You climbed so high little bird
But now your wings will clip
As life and death are paired
The Reapers scythe must sip
So looking back little bird
You flew your life so free
A role model revered
Nesting on sovereign tree
