Life Needs More Green Lights

Life Needs More Green Lights
A poem by Michael Joseph Farrelly
Stop there, said the smug red light
Lament, look in the mirror
Stare and think into the night
Your captive mind must linger
Wallow in consumed regret
Feel guilty at your deed
Resist the sublime sunset
False dawns are what they breed
Trust me, said the smug red light
You know I will turn green
Let me be your guiding knight
My timing will not wean
Less haste to void my maze of red
In the circles of your mind
Embrace my shade of words less said
Green envy is so blind
Stop don't think, said the smug red light
But a green hue lit the way
A splash of life, a glimpse of sprite
Smiling eyes, this mind's in play
Your mind is life and life is your mind
And life needs more green lights
Keep moving forward and you'll find
A better you in your sights
