Vera Wang was the born and bred New York girl who worked hard and made good. Her early ambitions were on the ice rink as she battled to be a professional ice skater, but with a family background in business she decided to follow her other all consuming passion for fashion and was employed by Vogue magazine and showing both talent and dedication she was quickly promoted until she became one of their youngest editors.
This was to be a great grounding as she stayed with Vogue for 17 highly enjoyable years before jumping ship to take a post working for the brand Ralph Lauren. After a further 2 years working with Ralph Lauren she felt she had learned enough about the fashion industry and was itching to start her own label and Vera had already seen the niche she was about to fill, bridal gowns.
Wang opened her first store in 1990 at the Carlyle Hotel in New York and her wedding dresses had an immediate impact as the fashionistas of high society, rock and roll and Hollywood all came knocking on her door looking for a Vera Wang designed bridal gown.
As her brand grew so did her retail outlets that currently grace some of the finest cities across the globe and with this prestige comes opportunities so Vera expanded her range and now her brand sells eyewear, fragrances and ready to wear fashion items all touched with the Vera Wang attention to detail and stylish look that her followers have come to adore.
